In the 1600's and earlier, on the trail connecting Lake Ontario with the lakes and land to the north, travelers knew the river valley near here as a good place to stop and eat.

When settlement began in the mid 1800's, John Kline and others built a grist mill and lumber mills, and several stores and small factories sprang up hereabouts. Travelers still liked to stop and eat here, and there were three hotels to accommodate them!

Kleinburg has slowly grown attracting new generations of settlers. Visitors nowadays are drawn to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection and to the shops in the village. The annual Binder Twine Festival preserves the conviviality of bygone times, and all year round, Kleinburg is still a pleasant place to stop and eat. Welcome.
